25 Common Entrepreneurial Characteristics …

Most people think that success as an entrepreneur is all about how much cash you have in the bank.

However, it isn’t just about your money OR your idea … it’s about the characteristics one has in order to make it on the roller coaster (see last week’s blog post for reference). And just because you may not “house” these characteristics now, it doesn’t mean you can’t acquire them along the way. Especially if you want to improve your chances of success (and not just the money kind). Success doesn’t come from staring blankly at a digital screen reading awesome articles like this. It starts with and idea and the drive to make that idea a reality. And when I think of this grand process the first thing two words that come to mind is DARING GREATLY!

(Which comes from an extremely popular Brene Brown book; Daring Greatly: How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent and Lead; that totally spun my world around and got me on the #BossBabe path that I’ve always dreamt of being on but was too scared.)

Daring greatly (v.)

The courage to be vulnerable, to show up and be seen. To ask for what you need, to talk about how you’re feeling, to have the hard conversations.

Now, take a seat and a metaphorical step back, and evaluate whether (or not) you have the following entrepreneurial characteristics …

  1. Motivation
  2. Optimism
  3. Passion
  4. Vision
  5. Focus
  6. Creativity
  7. Curiosity
  8. Ambition
  9. Empathy
  10. Flexibility
  11. Commitment
  12. Self-Confidence
  13. Integrity

Integrity is choosing courage over comfort; choosing what is right over what us fun, fast, or easy; and choosing to practice our values rather than simply professing them. ~ Brene Brown, Author

  1. Professionalism
  2. Organization
  3. Adaptability
  4. Versatility
  5. Ethics and Integrity
  6. Open-mindedness
  7. Decisiveness
  8. Determination
  9. Resilience
  10. Tenacity
  11. Resourcefulness
  12. Communication

The research that brought about the writing of this list came from thinking about how many hats many of us are wearing at any given time as we attempt to keep standing tall in our WonderWoman (or Batman) power pose. (In case your new to the benefits about daily power pose practice, READ THIS). And that some days we must simply do our best to do all and be all – but in the same breath, that’s what’s so great about the virtual world … We can now work on the fly (or work while flying), anywhere we want, with anyone we want – and YES, that includes your gloriously talented remote team members from all around the globe!

Individually, we are on drop, TOGETHER, we are an ocean. ~ HappyLives360.com

And that’s one of the great things about the world of entrepreneurialism … absolutely anyone in the world can do it!

All you need is a solution to a problem that people will love and pay for, a plan for success followed with consistency (don’t skimp on this step – can’t stress that enough) in execution as well as developing a good handful of the characteristics mentioned above. And of course, a passion of knowledge … Never stop learning and always remember to #GIVEBACK.

Now remember, there isn’t really any “ideal” entrepreneurial personalities for any one entrepreneur to become successful. And as per Belinda Plutz, career coach at Career Mentors Inc., “Regardless of who writes the paycheck, we all need to work as if we work for ourselves.” So, if you are about to embark on the journey to be an entrepreneur, have just entered the journey or have been in the journey but have not yet seen success, you should consider adopting these traits by making them a part of your everyday journey on your screamingly fun roller coaster ride to success!
