Why WordPress?

Choosing a platform is one of the first and most crucial decisions you will make for your new website. When I started out 8 years ago with my previous start-up company MyDesignSmash, Wix was the most up and coming thing out there when it came to choose a platform. Yes, it seemed fun at the time and there was a huge collection of templates to chose from and customize but it wasn’t all it was hopped up to be. Sorry Wix! So, when I recently re-branded MDS to the new Virtually Untangled way of business I did a ton of research on what is truly the best functioning platform for the type of business I was building. And yes, you already know my answer is WordPress.

So, with that being said … a hugely important factor to WordPress’s core platform is a completely free and open-source. Check point for one less ongoing cost to worry about. Now it’s not entirely free if you want to make use of the advanced features (such as: themes, plugins and other fancy tools) but there are a lot of low-cost options to choose from. When it comes to open-source, their platform is frequently updated, extensively tested and has an ease to customization. This means flexibility from all angles. BONUS!

WordPress also come with a user-friendly dashboard for beginners (or organized individuals such as myself). You won’t need any coding knowledge in order to create a professional and functioning website. So, whether you are writing content, customizing your settings or installing themes and plugins, their admin dashboard is very simple to understand and easy to navigate through. For those who are not in beginner mode or are looking to advance using your technical chops, WordPress has a very powerful ‘under the hood’ (they call it) which enables customization in every aspect imaginable.

There is a huge power when it comes to WordPress’s themes and plugins. The options are limitless! Their core platforms offer a number of key features, but keep in mind that many sites require additional functionality (adding your flare). They have specific themes for website type/styles … even niche-specific themes (such as photography, blogs and e-commerce sites). The very same goes for plugin options. There is honestly a tool out there for practically any feature you could possibly imagine (such as: contact forms, social media integration and forums). Here is a quick peak at WordPress.org’s theme directory and plugin directory. As an added bonus, here are a few additional sites I also like to use when it comes to reviewing theme options …

Next on my list of why WordPress is so great would be security! No matter what type of business site you are hosting, you want to make sure it is secure. In addition to their core being designed with security in mind, security updates are frequently released to it’s users. And if for some reason you feel that is just not enough for you, you can choose to download and install additional security plugins for your website’s protection. Of course, it is always smart to be hand-son about protecting your assets. So be sure to take simple precautions when securing your website. Here is a quick peak at some additional security plugin options.

I could go on and on with endless reasons on why I feel website builders/company owners should choose WordPress over nay other platform out there nowadays but then we would be here all day discussing SEO options, that WordPress isn’t just for bloggers (or vloggers), support systems, responsive design, accessibility, and … well you get the point.

So, if you are looking for a free yet powerful resource for building your businesses new website, you can’t go wrong with WordPress.

As she worked toward her dreams, she earned a diploma as a Computer Applications Specialist then another in Graphic Design and from there began to develop her extensive background in multimedia and the arts. She began her worked in the magazine industry as a layout designer and had a succession of design jobs thereafter. It was her role as a graphic/web designer that gave her the first real glimpse of her future. Soon she began a side job as a freelance designer while keeping one foot in the corporate world. A spark was lit! She turned her freelance gig into a full-time business combining design work with her other passion: creating organization from virtual chaos.

Crystal is one of the most organized individuals on the planet. She is by all means a Zen master of her crafts. She excels at helping others become “untangled” and provides her clients with tools to run their businesses smoothly while she takes care of the details behind the scenes.
