Who Are Virtual Assistants?
When I started my graphic design freelance business 7 years ago, I had all the motivation and creativity in me but felt I wasn’t acquiring the “right clients”. Over time it wore me out and the jobs became more stressful than passionate. I’ve lived and dreamed graphic design my entire life and now I was more than ready to walk away from all my hard work.
Then a light bulb came on … why give up everything I’ve worked my entire life for? Why not just expand the service level to get a mixture of everything I love so much in this world … design, writing, being creative and crazy organized?! So, here I am. Enlightening my true passions, on day one of my “soft launch” of Virtually Untangled.
First and foremost, I believe a little personality goes a long way. One’s blog should showcase one’s personality … I would like you to feel I’m speaking to you personally and to be able to let the creative juices flow, as messy as they may be. With that being said, let’s get started!
I feel it’s important to talk about the ever-fast growing field of virtual assistance. Who are we? What do we do? What are the benefits over hiring an actual employee?
A Virtual Assistant (VA) is self-employed and provides professional creative (social), technical and/or administrative assistance to clients remotely (I prefer “virtually”). Because VA’s are independent contractors rather than employees, clients are not responsible for any employee-related taxes, insurance or benefits. Clients also avoid the logistical problem of providing office space, equipment or supplies.
Statistically speaking, it is estimated that there are as many as 25,000 Virtual Assistants worldwide.
