Books and Blogs I’m Reading …
One of the best ways to exercise your mind if by reading; not only books but blogs too. This will not only add to your existing knowledge, but it will also keep your brain sharp! Experts recommend reading as a part of your daily routine, but there are staggering statistics about how little people read …
- 25% will not read one single book this year;
- 33% of high school graduates never read another book for their entire life;
- 42% of college students never read another book after college; and
- 80% of Canadian/US families did not buy or read a book within the last year.
All I have to say is … WOW! Imagine you said the same thing.
Being an avid reader, those statistics surely shocked me right to the core. When it comes to those of us who are creative (graphic designers, bloggers, writers, artists, etc.) the problem isn’t so much that we don’t read, it is that we spend our time reading blogs, magazines, tweets and other shorter forms of reading. This is great for consuming lots of information, but it surely does not work out our brains the same way a book would, which is truly an activity that forces the reader to ditch the distractions and focus.
However, I am a weird mixture of both. My creative side likes to read short snippets to stay up-to-date and my “country girl at heart” side likes to indulge in a good book when time allows for it. With the being said, I wanted to take some time today to share with you what I’ve been reading lately. Both books and blogs.
Books give a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything.
I just finished reading …
What I am reading now …
My summer reading list …
And lastly, here are a handful of blogs I religiously indulge in …
- Andrea Owen (blog and podcast)
- Marc and Angle Hack Life
- Mark Manson
- The Hustle
- The Copywriter Club
- Create Your Laptop Life
- Secrets of The Greatest Minds
- Brené Brown
- Tim Denning (on Medium)
- A Life of Productivity
- Chase Jarvis
- CB KickStart
(Just to name a few, LoL!)
All in all, reading books (and blogs) can only bring about positive effects on our lives. Not only will you increase your knowledge, you will also strengthen you mind by constantly using it. With that being said, do you have some good books of blogs you like to share? Feel free to drop them into the comments as I would love to hear your latest and greatest … I am always looking for something new to keep my mind fresh on all angles!
Not sure what to read next? Looking for ideas?
Feel free to join me on Goodreads and look at my bookshelves to find out what I’m reading, what’s next on my list, and maybe even step it up a notch by joining me (any many millions of others) in the 2018 reading challenge. Just because we’re half way through the year doesn’t mean you can’t join in on the fun!
You can’t buy happiness, but you can buy books and that’s kind of the same thing.

Crystal is an artist, a writer, an organizer, a dreamer, a doer, and down-right proud of it NERD!.
Struck with a love for #AllThings creative at a very young age, Crystal dreamed of a life fueled by her passion for creating and bringing the stories and images in her mind into reality.
As she worked toward her dreams, she earned a diploma as a Computer Applications Specialist then another in Graphic Design and from there began to develop her extensive background in multimedia and the arts. She began her worked in the magazine industry as a layout designer and had a succession of design jobs thereafter. It was her role as a graphic/web designer that gave her the first real glimpse of her future. Soon she began a side job as a freelance designer while keeping one foot in the corporate world. A spark was lit! She turned her freelance gig into a full-time business combining design work with her other passion: creating organization from virtual chaos.
Crystal is one of the most organized individuals on the planet. She is by all means a Zen master of her crafts. She excels at helping others become “untangled” and provides her clients with tools to run their businesses smoothly while she takes care of the details behind the scenes. Thus Virtually Untangled was born. A successful business where her work as a top notch creative in graphic and web — with a twist of virtual assistant — married into one amazing place where clients can come with their virtual messes and become magically untangled. Crystal can always make sense of even the most unorganized chaos and offers a virtual detox of order and peace, so her clients can get busy doing the work that they love the most.
